JOURNALISM AND HUMAN RIGHTS
This training is developed for women journalists, engaged in media, human rights and children’s rights with the aim of strengthening their journalistic skills while integrating core human rights principles into their reporting and storytelling.

OBJECTIVES​
This training aims to strengthen the journalistic skills of women journalists by integrating human rights principles—especially the rights of women and children—while enhancing their capacity to produce rights-sensitive content and ensuring their safety through cybersecurity awareness.​
What you will learn

Fundamental principles and international laws on human rights, with a focus on women’s and children’s rights

The role of local and international organisations in protecting human rights

Gender-sensitive occupational safety and digital security measures for women journalists

Techniques for writing press reports and opinion articles aligned with human rights principles

How to produce impactful journalistic content advocating for women’s and children’s rights
-
Practical skills in cybersecurity to protect yourself and your work in the field.
Requirements
-
Be a woman journalist, activist or media professional actively engaged in human rights, gender, or children’s rights.

Have at least 1 years of experience in journalistic field
-
Demonstrate a commitment to learning and applying human rights principles in journalistic work
-
Have good writing skills and an interest in producing content related to women’s and children’s rights
-
Be available to attend all scheduled sessions
-
Commit to applying the skills learned in your professional or community activities.

SUPPORT AND BENEFITS

You will have received guidance and support from experienced trainers and experts throughout the program as well as contributed to the creation of podcasts and journalistic content published on AHJ platforms, amplifying your voice, visibility and impact.

You will also be integrated into the Voix des Femmes Sans Frontières VFSF - Women Voices Without Borders network, connecting over 350 women journalists, artists, activists and experts across 11 MENA countries
PRESENTATION OF THE TRAINER
Niyaz Abdullah is an independent Kurdish Iraqi journalist known for her strong commitment to press freedom and human rights. She has reported for various outlets including Radio Nawa, NRT, and Zhyan News Network, covering political issues, minority rights, corruption, and human rights abuses.
In 2022, she received the International Press Freedom Award from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) in recognition of her courageous reporting despite threats and intimidation.
Niyaz is also a member of the International Association of Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Since relocating to France in 2021, she has been actively involved in training journalists through the Voix des Femmes Sans Frontières VFSF - Women’s Voices Without Borders network, focusing on digital security, rights-based content production, and empowering women journalists.
