Local Coordinator Iraq; national position

Specificity: short term project until 17th February 2021 with possible renewal for one year

​Workplace: AHJ headquarters in Erbil, KRI

​Beginning of contract:  As soon as possible 

​Number of working hours: part-time, flexible (will be discussed during interview)

​Length: eight months, possible renewal for one year

​Salary: 670€/month (≅750$/month)

AHJ is a not-for-profit organisation launched in 2017 in France, and registered in the Region of Kurdistan, Iraq since 2019. AHJ provides training in journalism and art to the people in the conflict zones,  particularly women, as an affirmation of their rights to expression, education and information. 

AHJ is the partner and expert for the CFI Canal France International programme Makanati . CFI a subsidiary of France Médias Monde, is the media development agency under the authority of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affaires in charge of coordinations and leading the French policy of development aid for medias in the world. The CFI agency works alongside media organizations, together with members of civil society, to promote pluralistic and democratic news and to support the objectives of sustainable development. 

 

Makanati” programme:

Since 2018, AHJ and CFI, have been working together to prepare the programme ¨Women and Media in Conflict Zones¨. On 18th and 19th December 2019 a regional seminar was held in Amman organized by CFI and AHJ. This seminar grouped together thirty media and gender experts, activists and journalists from Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Tunisia and Jordan as well as international expert representatives from UN agencies, UNDP and UNESCO to discuss difficulties encountered by women in the media field in both Irak and Yemen. 

 

The goal of the Makanati programme is to improve the skills of the media in relation to concepts and issues associated with gender equality and women’s rights in Iraq and Yemen.

The Makanati programme promotes greater participation of women in Iraqi and Yemeni society and a better understanding of their concerns by the population, particularity through the production and dissemination of content about them. It also seeks to raise awareness among journalists and future journalists regarding gender equality and women’s rights. Makanati contributes to improving the professional skills of female journalists in order to promote their access to decision-making positions.

Context for recruiting:

In the frame of Makanti programme in Iraq, AHJ is recruiting a local coordinator to provide local coordination of the activities of Makanati in collaboration with the other recruited staff.

Position: Pogramme Coordinator - Iraq

Assignment:

Under the General Manager of AHJ and Senior Supervisor of Makanati, the project coordinator is responsible for managing the development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the project’s activities in Iraq. The assignment includes responsibilities for general management of logistics and participation in activities, communication of the project towards local, national and international stakeholders/media in Iraq. The local coordinator shall contribute to animate the network and maintain regular contact with the journalists  and activists involved in the project, including providing technical support and guiding people and budget management for the project team and providing support in developing advocacy strategies and oversee their implementation.

 

Required skills and experience: 

Education:

- Master’s degree in Development Studies, Communication, Media, Social Sciences, or Gender Studies with 2 years of experiences in Iraq or

- Bachelor’s degree in an above-mentioned field with 4 years revenant experience in the field of Media, Women’s Right, Women and Gender Studies, elimination of violence against women with International or National Organization.

 

Languages required: Fluency in Arabic and Kurdish is required; Knowledge of English or French is an asset;

  • Ability to work under pressure on multiple projects whilst maintaining high-quality and timelinesses;
